I love bananas. I love the word, their color, the way they taste and perhaps, I am subconsciously drawn to their phallic form.  As a banana fan, I couldn’t help but be amused by the recent debacle over the trademark of the Warhol banana that was used for the cover of the Velvet Underground’s debut album in 1967.

Whenever I wear my Onch Banana, I get a ton of Warhol/Velvet Underground related comments and compliments. But really, I wear it for my undying love of bananas. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some Warhol and I do listen to the Velvet Underground…the recognition never ceases to amaze me. The banana is an icon; and wasn’t that the point of pop art? To  glamorize and change the way we see everyday objects?

Since bananas, Warhol and the Velvet Underground are synonymous (and all equally rad)…here’s a live performance  of  Femme Fatale from the aforementioned album.

Photo shoot with the incredibly talented Julie Klima.  The images were awesome! We were really excited to work with Julie-totally exceeded all expectations!

Trip to LACMA…I stared at this as if i were on hallucinogens.

Checked out the California Design Exhibit at LACMA. I really liked this illuminated room divider, though it would be super rad if those leaves were multicolored and translucent.

On display was the original Barbie Dream House from 1962.

Last weekend was The Unique LA Local Love Event. Ho and I stopped by to visit our favorite mad scientist’s brand-Skullastic.

We also stopped by to visit awesome illustrator Huntz Liu.

Yes, that is a giant purple unicorn head. I finally checked out Dog Show in Echo Park. Go there. Now! It just might blow your mind.

OMG! My manifestations for the new year have started to happen…January was NUTS! So busy….Anyway, I’m back and these are a few things that have made me very happy lately:

COLOR, COLOR, COLOR! I could take all inspiration from the color palette used in this video.

Nicki Minaj for OPI “DID IT ON ‘EM”. I freaked out when I saw this at the salon….this is very close to my favorite color of the last 5 years…

Montana Black in Pistachio. I have been obsessed with this color and have used it multiple times for Hysteric Haus related projects.

But, even more exciting than all of the above:

the return of M.I.A.

IT’S A NEW YEAR!

I don’t make resolutions, I create manifestations. Nothing is too crazy and nothing is out of reach. Here it goes for the universe to see!

Hoping this year brings:

  • Tons of love, health, friends, money
  • Creative collaborations
  • A store front, studio space, endless resources
  • Tea parties, purple lounges, claw machines
  • Travel, adventures, surprises!

Here’s looking at you, 2012.

Two Fridays ago, Horacio and I hung out with our good friends, Minh and Amy. AKA HM Soundsystem. We went to a party at the new (and super awesome)  Downtown LA headquarters for The Fader.

Open bar and open cupcakes. Best combo ever. Oh! and there was a fish taco stand.

Amy approves.

This past Thursday we were at it again-this time at the Broadway Bar celebrating the birthday of our good friend, Tiffanie. She went all fancy and got champagne, cupcakes and reserved seating.  Hm Soundsystem takeover the Broadway Bar every thursday and night-and they hooked it up.

I completely and utterly failed at getting a picture of the Birthday girl.

But I did manage to get one of Ho.

Merry Christmas!

It’s the end of the year! That means….lots of top 10 lists!

These are 10 of my favorite songs from 2011, in no particular order:

I Know Places- Lykke Li

My insides melt every time I hear this song.

Gucci Gucci- Kreayshawn

I’m not gonna lie-I wasn’t feeling this when I first heard/saw this. WOW did it grow on me. Plus, I’d smoke a blunt with Kreayshawn if given the chance.

I got the swag and it’s pumpin’ out my ovaries. Word.

PON PON PON- Kyary Pamyu Pamyu

I have  no idea what is being sung in this song….but it doesn’t even matter.

Video Games- Lana Del Rey

When I first heard this song I was intrigued, confused and left in awe. Feelings of being jabbed in the heart also persisted. This is such a deep song full of emotion…and it seems like she came out of nowhere..?!

Dance (A$$) Remix- Big Sean ft. Nicki Minaj

Nicki’s verse. PERIOD. Plus, I played this song obsessively for a week.

We were very pleased with our booth this time around….it was very bright, open and textural.  AND we had plastic, wood and fuzzy walls!

Hysteric Haus picture frames debuted at this show…people liked them-we had to keep replenishing our stock!

The pillows really pop against the white walls. Our super sexy white flooring also does wonders for the overall effect.

It’s true! Our products are made locally with lots of love.

Lucky cats always travel with us.

Plastic Surgery sold out at the show! More will be produced within the next few weeks.
