MY LITTLE PONY PROJECT: MISCHIEF ON MELROSE

The My Little Pony Project 2012 opened this past Saturday at the Toy Art Gallery on Melrose. Curated by Sweet Streets, the show exhibits 25 artist designed My Little Pony figures by an array of artists, designers and brands. Also on display is a collection of vintage MLP’s, which surely made the 5-year-old me squeal with delight. There were events at a total of four shops along Melrose and each had a Pony on display. We ventured to each spot throughout the night for all the Pony excitement.

The line to get into the Toy Art Gallery was so long and it never seemed to die down as the night progressed. Luckily, we showed up early.

Inside was just as crazy! There was a DJ, open bar and cake balls. CAKE BALLS!

Drinking a beer as I reminisced about the Ponies of my childhood….

I insisted that Horacio take a picture with designer Onch Movement because I knew it would be really funny…and it was! Onch insisted on doing something “sexy”. Thankfully, Ho’s awesome enough to play along. Haha!

Yume Ninja and Chubby Bunny tapping unicorn horns. They were amongst the best dressed of the evening, as they usually are.

Lil’ Rae Cake balls are as delicious as they are kawaii. Check out Chrissa‘s self-made MLP necklace!

The Indie 184 Pony at Munky King. There are also new works by Indie on display and a Kweenz Destroy mini shop. I’m really tempted to buy a piece…

HM Soundsystem‘s Amy and Minh also met up with us

Lastly, we headed over to Joyrich, which is one of my all-time favorite retail spaces. Lights, mirrors, and color galore! Their pony was pretty sweeeet!

This is Shannon. We met on Friday and were hugging and giggling by Saturday. She was in town for Michelle’s birthday…and is now back home in Portland.

Everyone had a such good time…friendship really is magic!

The show runs through May 26th, so go get your Pony on!

CONFETTI AND SPRINKLES

I was at the craft store, Michael’s recently and stumbled across this weird aisle devoted entirely to over-priced decorations for Quinceaneras. I never had, nor been to a Quinceanera, but I do know that people go all out for them and some can be as big and extravagant as a wedding.

I was particularly drawn to the assortment of colorful confetti. It’s like glitter on steroids!

I kept looking at the doll-like figures. They had them in all sizes and colors.

I actually went there to buy decorations for cupcakes and Michael’s has a way better sprinkle selection than the supermarket. I also came across, what is essentially, EDIBLE SPRAY PAINT. Now I am not a baker; so for all I know, this could be old news, but I was intrigued nonetheless and purchased a can.

So much edible decor! Sprinkles, sparkles, sprays and dyes in all colors!

SWEET BUNNY SPANK

Last night was the Sweet Streets art show at WWA Gallery in Culver City.

It was colorful times!

Images from top to bottom:   One of my favorite pieces in the show, by Macotic. I think I have a thing for artwork with  super colorful, juicy girls.

Me in front of the rainbow, pony and hearts wall wearing my favorite item of clothing-my Married to the MOB purple sequin jacket!

Close-up of said jacket, plus my almost obnoxiously huge magenta Hello Kitty bag. My nails almost match the My Little Pony charm!

All-around awesome guy, Mark!
